Properly sorting your scrap metal before visiting Metalico ensures that you get the best price in exchange for your scrap. It’s definitely worth taking a few minutes to get your scrap load properly prepared before you visit any one of our locations.
The following suggested preparation process could help you maximize the value of your scrap.
SORT: If possible, sort your scrap by metal type (copper, brass, aluminum, stainless, lead and iron).
Tip: (ferrous versus non-ferrous – steel and iron are ferrous – magnets check)
STRIP: Strip insulation from copper wiring.
Tip: it may take a bit of time, but the extra money will be worth your effort.
REMOVE: Remove plastic and wood from household appliances.
DRAIN: Drain all fluids from vehicles and equipment, including oil, gas, diesel, fuel, power steering/brake/transmission/radiator fluids – dispose of or properly recycle these fluids.
CUT: To receive a higher payout for your heavy scrap iron, cut into pieces no larger than 36” x 18”.
BRING: Identification needed in order to receive payment.
